                      If hiragana or katakana don't appear properly when you flip the boxes, please try the following:
   

                           Click on "View" in the task bar and click on "Encoding". 
                           A box appears next to "Encoding". Scroll up and down to find "Japanese (Auto-Select)" and click on it.
                           If this still doesn't work, try the same but this time click on "Japanese (JIS)" or "Japanese (EUC)".
