Aikido and culture presentations
An interactive presentation using the graceful martial art of Aikido to present Japanese language and culture in a dynamic and stimulating way. By combining an Aikido demonstration with references to, and questions about, Japanese history and language, students are engaged in stimulating ways with a vibrant, "living" example of Japanese culture. Students are engaged not only in the gentle warm up stretches and centering exercises at the start of the class but also during the demonstration "what is a hakama?..who were the samurai?..have you seen this kanji before?.." again adding to the value and the "genkiness" of the learning experience.
